Artists & Makers Studios is pleased to be the home of The Compass Atelier!
THE COMPASS ATELIER is an incredible art school located within Artists & Makers Studios 1 and 2. Our gorgeous classrooms play host to a range of artistic programs for aspiring or professional artists of all levels. The Compass Atelier now has three classrooms – a 1,000 sq ft classroom located at Artists & Makers Studios 1 on Parklawn in Rockville, The Compass Atelier Annex in studio 8 at A&M1, and a new 1,100 sq ft classroom at Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville.
Founded by Maryland artist Glen Kessler (who also maintains a painting studio at A&M), The Compass Atelier has emerged as perhaps the best art school in the region, offering students a higher level of artistic development through their committed faculty and outstanding programming. Here’s some of what we do…
The Master Artist Program
The best art class you will ever take. Its coordinated curriculum transforms hobbyists into professional artists in just three short years. Technical skills, meaningful concepts, and business acumen are all mastered in this unique and amazing program.
Weekly Classes
We offer a range of seasonal weekly classes with our esteemed faculty. Whether you are a beginner or experienced painter you will find joy and improvement through our classes.
Workshops with Visiting Artists
Some of the country’s best painters visit The Compass Atelier to lead inspired students through invaluable lessons. Past artists include Duane Keiser, Alyssa Monks, Steven Assael and Cindy Procious.
Open Life Model Sessions
Every month we offer both short and long-pose model sessions. These are uninstructed and offer a great opportunity to improve your skills in a relaxed environment.
Wine & Paint Parties
Every month we host a fun night of art and wine. The images are already pre-drawn and our excellent instructors lead you through the painting, ensuring you leave with something you love. Come solo, bring a date or gather the whole gang for an unforgettable night.
Study Abroad
Art is everywhere! We run semi-regular trips to domestic and international destinations of art, culture and fun. Past trips include Impressionism through France, New York City, Washington DC.
