Andrea Cybyk for her Solo Exhibit “Growing Still”
(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn Drive in Rockville is delighted to host Andrea Cybyk for the month of September. The exhibit, “Growing Still” runs from August 31st through September 26th at Artists and Makers Studios, with an opening reception on Friday, September 8th, 5 – 8pm. The luscious, modern botanical paintings in Andrea Cybyk’s exhibit “Growing Still” capture moments of calm within the messy reality of life. From subdued to vibrant, each piece invites the viewer to pause, take a breath and reconnect with the abundance of nature all around us. Andrea’s process combines painting and monotype techniques using acrylic paint on paper and translucent polyester film. She works directly with plants, capturing crisp silhouettes and intricate textures. The plants she chooses are resilient and determined – bamboo, invasive grasses and other vigorous spreaders that flourish largely without assistance. Like tidying an overgrown garden, she set some rules for creating this body of work to help filter, focus and celebrate the process: analogous hues rather than a cacophony of colors; one plant at a time, not the whole garden; and liberal use of clean white space for contrast. Each piece follows or breaks these rules according to whim. Collectively, they weave a rich and enveloping tapestry of a full and varied life
