Artist Statement: I paint in both traditional and water mixable oils. My paintings are expressions in “realism / gestural realism”. I create the illusion of space and depth, rendering the composition and lighting so that my paintings subject appears real, but not photo real. Layers of paint are applied with attention given to color values and temperature to capture the subjects form. The subject texture is modeled utilizing varied brush strokes, thickness of paint and a palette knife.
My paintings run the gamut from Still Life to Landscape, Floral, and Seascape. I paint what I see directly from life as well as from my own photography references.
From concept to completion my paintings are a reflection of the beauty that speaks directly to me.
My Background: With a Bachelors of Fine Art from Bradley University and graduate work at Kellogg School of Business, I spent 30 plus years in Brand Marketing Communications. Over that time I received the Obie Award, Möbius Award, Effie Award, Long international Award and Clio Award, among others. In retirement I have returned to my fine art and enjoy the time I have to devote to my painting. The Arizona desert and mountain landscape is magical and inspiring. It is the perfect place to pick up my brushes!
