Paige Hirsch

I am a self-taught abstract painter and collage artist.  I have always been creative but didn’t put my talent to use until my two sons were independent.  Before that, they took up all of my spare time.  I have spent the last three years making up for that lost time.  I still work full-time, but spend any free time I have either painting or creating mixed-media collages.

I am always trying new techniques and love to see how the painting or collage emerges.  I begin my work without any preconceived ideas of what the finished piece will look like.  I usually have a color palette ready and I go from there.

The nature of my work varies from time to time, but my piecesPaige Hirsch 6x8 72dpi almost always use paper.  I love paper.  I love collecting paper.  I hoard paper.  I also love to erase some elements in each layer so that the layer underneath shows through.  In addition to paint, paper and collage materials, texture will be used to enhance the composition as it slowly emerges from the canvas.  The process involves the gradual buildup of many layers of color and texture to create the final piece.

My paintings usually have quite a few layers each one building on the last.  I usually work in acrylics and love to add extensive detailing with acrylic paint, pens or spray paint.  The black pen or paint added onto my bright, colorful backgrounds add so much pop to my pieces.

Most of my collectors and admirers say my paintings make them feel happy.  I can’t think of a better compliment.
