October 2018 in the Galleries at A&M 1 and 2

Artists & Makers Studios 1 and 2 Present Five Exhibits in Five Galleries at Two Locations for the Month of October

(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn Drive and Wilkins Avenue in Rockville are featuring five exhibits at two locations with Parklawn solos for Jacqui Crocetta, Carol Moore Printmaking, and William Pierce, along with Wilkins solo exhibits for Jean Hirons and Marian Osher. These five exhibits will open First Friday festivities between 6-9pm on October 5th and will showcase resident artists’ open studios for browsing as well.

“ Tillage + Flow ” with Jacqui Crocetta
Tillage + Flow designates a shift in Jacqui Crocetta’s practice as she initiates a new project, Delve. The gradual transition in these paintings is the result of Crocetta’s pursuit of a productive agitation and flux in the studio as she prepares to embark on her next body of work by cultivating a turning point for new material and conceptual ground in her painting.

Through Delve, Crocetta will focus on the intersection of compassion and conviction as she continues her investigation of the human condition through abstraction. Her practice will center on mindfulness, interconnectedness, authenticity and ease as they relate to resilience, hope and healing.

Delve is supported in part by funding from the Montgomery County government and the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.

Solo with Carol Moore Printmaking
Carol Moore offers a selection of original hand-pulled Intaglio and Lithographic prints that strive to capture the essence of nature’s spirit. In her journey exploring the natural world, she found that the human spirit is unequivocally linked.

Many of Moore’s prints are hand-colored using a technique that she has developed that pushes the color behind the ink creating cohesive and intimate details.

“ Keyhole Library ” with Will Pierce
A series of portable peepholes. Dioramas designed to draw the viewer into an alternative space using wood, found objects, optical illusions, and photography.

“ A Colorist’s DC ” with Jean Hirons

Jean Hirons has always loved the visual beauty of Washington, DC.  In recent years she has been painting the C&O Canal in Georgetown, the back alleys of Capitol Hill, and the colorful streets of Chinatown.  The subject matter leads the viewer’s eye deep into the background, past bridges, buildings, and trash cans of all shapes and colors. Working in soft pastel, Hirons combines beauty of form with vibrant colors that sing with a harmony not typical in some parts of our city!  Hirons is a recognized master of her medium, as well as a teacher and author of a highly-acclaimed book on pastel painting.  Her paintings have been exhibited and collected internationally.

Hirons paints and teaches at Artists and Makers Studios on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville.  From 2005 to 2012, she taught pastel at Montgomery College. She holds signature membership in the Pastel Society of America and is in the Master Circle of the International Association of Pastel Societies.

Love the Brave World” – paintings by Marian Osher and poetry by Ruth Allen Siskind
Artist Marian Osher celebrates and honors the 100th birthday year of her parents with an exhibition of lyrical, vibrant, textured acrylic paintings that respond to a selection of her mother’s poetry. Osher enriches her paintings with a variety of materials, including mirrors, fabric, mylar, paper, sculpted canvas, sand, shells, archival foam board and carborundum steel grit. Siskind’s poetry “paints” with words that resonate with the senses and provide glimpses of universal truths.
