“Frankenstein’s Little Beauties” with Goodloe Byron for the month of May
Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn Drive in Rockville is proud to host Goodloe Byron with his fantastical paintings in the Invited Artist Gallery with two additional exhibits and an Open Studio event for the month of May. The show, Frankenstein’s Little Beauties, runs from May 3rd through May 24th at Artists and Makers Studios, with an opening reception on Friday, May 5th, 5 – 9pm. Every painting here is the result of its own chaos. Goodloe doesn’t profess to have any other overarching thing to say about them except for it is miraculous that they have somehow survived the inhospitable environment of his studio. There are cans of things and plants everywhere, the floor is a mess and everywhere you look there is some horrible creation gone wrong. But every so often he stitches together a few limbs and the next day he finds them moving around, trying to get out of the studio. It’s a lovely thing when that happens but even then there is a terrible temptation to throttle them, especially when they are hideous. But sometimes even the ugly ones come together and are so alive that you can no longer deny that they are at least beautiful enough to survive. Then you open the door and let them out to roam the world… or in this case Artists & Makers Studios! Enjoy additional exhibits – “Hair” with Resident Artists, and 19 Gallery 209 Artists exhibiting their latest work. The theme for the May A&M Resident Artists’ exhibition is Hair – long, short, braided, dreaded, straight, frizzy, curly, wavy, flowing. It’s all that and more. It’s expression. It’s culture. It’s the crowning glory. On view in the Gallery Hall, May 3 – 24th.

Exhibits for Goodloe Byron, the Resident Artists, and Gallery 209 will run from May 3rd through May 24th. Viewing hours are 10:00am – 4:00pm, Monday-Saturday, and Sundays by chance or appointment. Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn Drive in Rockville, established in October 2014 by artist and arts community builder Judith HeartSong, is a 13,000 sq. ft. facility is home to 87 artists, and 80 student artists. Artists & Makers Studios – Oro Valley, AZ is a two-year-old jewel box location with talented Resident Artists, 3,575 sq ft of studios, galleries, and flex-classroom space. Construction is currently underway in San Gabriel, CA for Artists & Makers Studios’ third location, with construction set to begin shortly for the fourth location in North Hollywood, CA. A&M Studios is dedicated to providing a supportive and vibrant environment for artists to realize their creative goals – through studio practice, collaboration, education, opportunities, networking and connecting with the community beyond our doors.
