Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville Presents the Glorious
Pastel Landscape Paintings of Jean Hirons for the Month of March
(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn Drive in Rockville hosts Artist Jean Hirons in the gallery for the exhibit “Intuiting the Landscape” with two additional exhibits and an Open Studio event. The March 3rd First Friday evening opening will run from 5pm – 9pm. Jean Hirons presents a series of pastel landscape paintings done during 2022-2023, a time of change and challenge. Her goal was to create paintings not completely based on any one photo that would have strong value shapes and harmonious color based on her intuition. Having painted landscapes in pastel for over 30 years, she figured it was time to wing it! Beginning with or without photos, she did drawings, then color studies from the drawings, and then the painting from the color study. In other cases, she worked purely from her imagination. Jean is a signature member of the Pastel Society of America and past president of the Maryland Pastel Society. Enjoy additional exhibits – “Creature” with Resident Artists, and 19 Gallery 209 Artists exhibiting their latest work. In their March exhibition, Resident Artists make work about beautiful, bizarre, and sometimes frightening creatures. They are in one’s wildest dreams and worst nightmares. They are under the bed, in the basement, the forest, and the ocean. They have supernatural powers for good or evil. Throughout history, artists have brought people’s fears and fantasies to life by depicting the frightening and the fabulous creature.
