Ken Bachman

Although his time for painting was limited during his 40-year career as a lawyer and partner in a leading international law firm, Ken Bachman is now concentrating fully on his art.  He is studying oil painting in the Compass Atelier Certificate Program, and watercolor painting with Christine Lashley.

Ken believes each painting should create a work that is interesting and fresh.  He has always been attracted particularly to representational Ken Bachman_0004 6x6 72 dpiart, and has studied the different techniques employed by great artists over the centuries.  He draws on that background with his own painterly style.  He is drawn primarily to landscape scenes for inspiration, and seeks to capture the atmosphere and subtleties of each scene with a harmony of color and tone.  Ken enjoys the vibrancy, depth and tonal range of painting in oils as well as the immediacy of watercolors.  He has a keen interest in photography and uses this interest to develop compositions that inspire his painting.

Ken lives and works in Bethesda, Maryland.   Currently, a selection of his oil paintings are on view in the Park View Gallery at Glen Echo.  Recently, two of his paintings were selected by a juror from the Smithsonian American Art Museum for the “Strokes of Genius” Exhibition of the Maryland Federation of Art.  He has exhibited his works throughout the Washington metropolitan area, including in the Glen Echo Labor Day Show, the Kensington Labor Day Show, Capitol Hill Art League and Hill Center shows, the Washington Area Lawyers for the Arts show, the Yellow Barn Members Show, and several other events.  Ken is an authorized Copyist at the National Gallery of Art.
