Barbara Bell began her formal training in art while on academic leave from university teaching.
She worked in studio arts at Montgomery College (Rockville) in the 1980s, concentrating on lithography.
Before re-entering the workforce as a teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools, her works hung in numerous local exhibitions.
Retirement twenty years later afforded her time to resume her artwork.
She has studied watercolor with the late Leroy Lawson and, for the past eight years, with David Daniels.
Barbara has been a member of the Art League, The Foundry Gallery, The Laurel Art Guild, Rockville Art league and the Takoma Watercolor Group.
Barbara uses her own photographs as a major resource for her paintings, in which she attempts to capture the fluidity and rhythms of the natural world.
