September in the Galleries at A&M1 – Parklawn

Artists & Makers Studios Presents
IMAGINARY FRIENDS
(Discovered and Documented by Caroline McCatty and Kathy Beynette)
The Creative Mind of Dana Zatman
Steven Krensky’s Wearable Hat Show

Artists & Makers Studios on Parklawn in Rockville is proud to present three exhibits in four galleries for the month of September along with artists’ open studios. “IMAGINARY FRIENDS (Discovered and Documented by Caroline McCatty and Kathy Beynette)” The artists were out thrifting one day when they came upon a very strange church, all boarded up and dripping in mystery. Immediately, they started imagining the folks who might worship there. In a creative exercise they challenged each other to bring the congregation to life – and the resulting work is the nucleus of this show. McCatty is traveling from the UK for the exhibit and is known around the world for her automata, fiber paintings and drawings. Beynette is a painter and writer whose work is published as calendars, books and puzzles.

“The Creative Mind of Dana Zatman” explores the creative genius of a fourth generation artist who works with acrylics, watercolors, fibers, printmaking, paper scraps, collage and layers of paints, pastels and gold leaf. “Steven Krensky’s Wearable Hat Show” is an open call exhibit at both A&M locations. We are also introducing a new monthly series Words out Loud in the artists’ lounge, from 7-8pm. Maritza Rivera and our host Philip Wexler will be the featured poets, followed by an open mic. Resident artists’ open studios will round out the evening for visitors at Parklawn.
