October in the Galleries at A&M2 – Wilkins

Artists & Makers Studios 2 Presents
Story Fragments – with Ellen Cornett
Explorations – Paintings and Drawings of Sarna Marcus
My Petersburg. My City. My Story – with Gary D. Jones

Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present two exhibits in the main galleries for the month of August. “Story Fragments” with Ellen Cornett Working in charcoal and carbon pencil, I create surreal tableaux frequently referencing fairy tales, poems and rhymes. While the subject matter of each image varies widely, a number of common motifs, such as human figures with animal heads, and animals in carts or on wheels, tie them together and make them seem like moments in one long, overarching plot—each drawing a fragment of the larger story. “Explorations – Paintings and Drawings of Sarna Marcus” Born and raised in Brooklyn and received her training at Pratt Institute, Marcus moved to Washington DC, championing the recognition of women artists in the then male-dominated art world.  Art by women, Marcus claimed, incorporated a unique iconography and existed separate from the universally accepted women-as-object paradigm. The Montgomery County Camera Club’s Gary D. Jones “My Petersburg. My City. My Story” in the hallway gallery, along with exhibits in New Master’s 3rd floor Gallery, and Gallery 209 on the second floor. Arthur Harrison adds acoustic ambience with theremin music in the artists’ lounge and resident artists’ open studios throughout the buildings will round out the evening.
