July in the Galleries at A&M2 – Wilkins

Artists & Makers Studios 2 Presents
“The Unapproved Thought” Curated by Liz Georges
Time and Place: A Retrospective” with Julie Smith

(Rockville, MD) – Artists & Makers Studios 2 on Wilkins Avenue in Rockville will present three exhibits in the main galleries for the month of July. “The Unapproved Thought” features the work of Michele Colburn, Linda Hesh, Carolina Mayorga, John Paradiso, Jenny Walton, Dawn Whitmore, and Zac Willis. Our national narrative has long been dominated by stories of outrage, to the point where the outrage can almost feel disingenuous, a parody of itself. When everything is controversial, nothing is controversial. And yet transgressive ideas, images and narratives are important, essential even, to bringing about social change. One cannot create new social norms of expression, new ideas of justice, without them. “Time and Place: A Retrospective” with Julie Smith – the saying goes, “life is a journey, not a destination” and there are times and places in our lives that provide markers of memory for our individual journeys. She has increasingly embraced abstraction and this exhibit serves as the road map of her journey thus far. A group exhibit by the Montgomery County Camera Club “The Essence of the DMV” as well as exhibits in New Master’s Gallery, Gallery 209, and resident artists’ open studios round will out the evening.
