Alex Michaels

Alexandra Michaels is a local artist who has exhibited at many locations including artist-in-residence at the Stone Tower at Glen Echo Park, Artomatic, Artery 717, Magical Montgomery in Silver Spring and the Yellow Barn. Recently she had a mixed media watercolor in an exhibit entitled “Earth and Fire” at the Del Ray Artisans Gallery in Alexandria, VA.

Ms. Michaels taught art, including the advanced placement studio art classes, in the Montgomery County Public Schools for 27 years. Ms. Michaels is now retired from the school system and pursues drawing and painting in her studio. She completed 30 Graduate credits in the Directed Studies Program at the UMD art program where she completed a series entitled “Dress as Icon.” Ms. Michaels has experience in all types of media including drawing, watercolor, acrylic painting, mixed media, sculpture, ceramics and b&w photography. The Maryland Art Education Association has honored her with the Educator of the Year award both in 1994 and in 2013.

Ms. Michaels is the author/illustrator of The Kids’ Multicultural Art Book, 1993, Williamson Publishing Co., Vermont also published in Czechoslovakia in 1995. The Kids’ Multicultural Art Book has been currently re-released in full color by Ideals Publishing, 2007. She also is the Illustrator for Jazzy Jewelry, by Diane Baker, 2002, Williamson Publishing Co., Vermont.

Ms. Michaels is an instructor at the Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery, Glen Echo Park, where she teaches summer classes and workshops. She currently has a shared studio space at Artists & Makers Studios in Rockville.
